The perception of facial expressions of emotion in Parkinson's disease

I am investigating the ability of those with Parkinson's disease to perceive the facial expressions of emotion in others. I am also interested in the reason for a possible emotion perception impairment in a condition that is primarily conceptualised as a motor condition.

Why my research is important

The ability to perceive facial expressions of emotion in others is central to the regulation of social behaviour. There is mixed evidence that the perception of emotion is impaired in Parkinson's. The reason for a possible impairment also remains poorly understood.
