· Gaining a deep understanding of current research within several areas of the discipline.

In addition: The new system for entry to Honours will require that you achieve an average of 65% or better in your level 3 units (3rd year). Once you’ve achieved this, students will be ranked according to their marks in those 3rd year units and students will be taken from the top of the list until the School has filled its available places. If you do not get a place at mid -year there is a very small chance that you will get an offer at the end of the year when the criteria are re-assessed, but you are advised to apply elsewhere as well.
You must be able to enroll as a part-time student in semester 2 2009. If you are an International student check your eligibility with the International Centre
If you have completed the Graduate Diploma in Psychology you are eligible to apply for entry into the honours program.
Applicants who hold a three year Psychology degree from another University are welcome to apply. Your degree must be APAC accredited, and you must have a double major in Psychology (a full-time year’s worth of level 300 psychology units in any other credit point system). Your grades will be assessed on a case-by-case basis if they are not provided on the same scale as UWA grades.
HOW TO APPLY
If you are a UWA student, apply for entry into the Honours program using this link: https://applicant.sims.uwa.edu.au/connect/webconnect. This takes you to the Student connect system where you can now apply using your student account. If you have already applied by paper there is no need to reapply.
If you are not currently a UWA student
If you are a domestic student you must make an application using these forms:
http://www.studyat.uwa.edu.au/undergrad/australian/honours/ through the admissions office. If you are an international student apply through the International Office at UWA .
What should I enroll for?
The current structure of the Honours program is:
|
Semester 1 |
Semester 2 |
|
PSYC7421 – Psychology Honours Research Project Part 1 (12 points) |
PSYC7422 – Psychology Honours Research Project Part 2 (18 points) |
|
PSYC7416 – Psychological approaches to understanding (6 points) |
|
|
PSYC7418 Research methods 1 (6 points) OR |
PSYC7419 Research methods 2 (6 points) |
|
PSYC7412 Psych as a profession 1 (6 points) OR |
PSYC7413 Psych as a profession 2 (points) |
Part 1 of the Honours project must be taken before part 2 and PSYC7416 must be taken in semester 1. Therefore, if you begin in the middle of 2009 you can enroll for only PSYC7413 and PSYC7419. If your preference is to take the first semester option in either of these pairs instead that’s fine – you may begin with only 6 points in your first semester. When you complete the application form fill in your entire enrolment – in the ‘teaching period’ column put not only the semester but the year you intend to complete each unit.
What about project supervisors?
Don’t do anything about that now – you will talk to supervisors and enter preferences in September/October along with the students finishing third year.

A No, apply only for the year you want to start.

A You should have completed your level 3 Psychology units within the four years prior to applying for Honours, so most students can take several years off.
Q Can I start mid – year?
A Yes, but it takes 3 semesters to complete so you must be able to enroll part-time. Mid – year places are not offered to students who miss out on the grades.
