Clinical Neuropsychology is an important aspect of modern health care which deals with the psychological effects of brain damage and disease.
Our Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology & Clinical Psychology) program begins with a thorough training in Clinical Psychology comparable to that contained within the Master of Psychology (Clinical). Building upon this foundation, the program offers training in the assessment and treatment of the psychological consequences of brain injury and disease. Students take courses in basic neuroscience, and in the methods, findings, and theories of clinical neuropsychology. They also conduct a supervised research project on an issue of relevance to clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology.
The Master of Psychology/PhD (Clinical Neuropsychology) provides similar specialist training in Clinical Neuropsychology as the DPsych, but also includes intensive supervised training in higher level research skills relevant specifically to clinical neuropsychology.
Our program is based on a scientist-practitioner model of clinical and clinical neuropsychology. Consequently, the program can be conceptualised as having three interrelated components:
(i) An academic component which aims to provide students with the necessary theoretical and empirical base.
(ii) A clinical component which focuses on teaching students practical skills and techniques. This includes training in modern techniques of neuroscience that have clinical relevance
(iii) A research component which aims to train students to critically read and carry out research projects so that these skills can be translated into their future work. The research is of an internationally competitive quality and it is common for students to submit their research for publication.

For admission to either program, candidates must hold a first or upper second-class Honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent).
The DPsych course extends over three years of full-time study and includes coursework, practical placements in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology settings, and research.
The Mpsych/PhD course takes places over four years full time and includes coursework and placements in clinical neuorpsychology as well as an extended program of research relevant to clinical neuropsychology.

Application forms for the program become available in July and applications close at the end of October. Applicants are encouraged to apply for scholarships where appropriate.
