Psychology applications checklists

  • Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy programs only
  • Applicants for all the Master/PhD programs, Graduate Diplomas and Master of IOP
  • Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Autism Diagnosis program

Applications for the Master/PhD programs, Graduate Diplomas (Clinical and Clinical Neuropsychology), Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology, and Graduate Certificate in Autism Diagnosis starting 2018 will open mid-September 2017 and will close 31st October 2017.


Entry to the coursework and combined programs is at the beginning of the academic year. Entry to the Master of Philosophy and the Doctor of Philosophy programs is throughout the year.

Entry requirements

For entry into an APAC accredited postgraduate degree applicants must be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, which includes meeting the Board's English language registration standard.


Master/PhD programs and Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology*

Entry into all postgraduate psychology programs at UWA is extremely competitive. Applicants must hold, or expect to gain, at least a 2A class Honours degree (or equivalent) in Psychology from an approved University. Current honours students who expect to qualify before the beginning of the next academic year are encouraged to apply.

Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology*

Applicants must hold an accredited Master of Clinical Neuropsychology or Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology), or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA.

Graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology*

Applicants must hold an accredited Master of Clinical Psychology or Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology), or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA.

Graduate Certificate in Autism Diagnosis

Applicants must have:

  1. a bachelor's degree in speech pathology, medicine, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; or an accredited bachelor's honours degree in psychology, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA, and either provisional or full registration as a psychologist; and

  2. evidence of having at least three months of full-time equivalent experience working directly with children or adolescents, as recognised by UWA.

Additional Supporting Information

  • Applicants for Masters/PhD, Graduate Diplomas - Clinical and Clinical Neuropsychology - and Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology programs must ask 2 academic referees to provide us with reports using the National Online Referee System. Please ensure that you give your referees enough notice to meet the deadline of 31st October 2017. This system is the same across all Australian Universities. To be able to use the system you will need to have an active subscription. The subscription allows you access the service during 2017-2018 intake from the 1st of August 2017 to 30th July 2018. The cost is $25.00 and can be paid for through the "My account" section in the payment tab of the National Online Referee System.

  • Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Autism Diagnosis program must forward the Qualtrics Report link below to their nominated academic referees. Please ensure that you give your referees enough notice to meet the deadline of 31st October 2017.

Applicants for all of the above programs must also provide the following information with their application:

  • Brief personal statement outlining the reasons for applying for the program - maximum of one page.
  • Curriculum Vitae summarising any occupational or practical experience of relevance to the program.
  • Names and contact details (telephone numbers and email addresses) of the two nominated academic referees that will be completing the referee report.

Supervision

Candidates for the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), Master of Philosophy (by research), and combined Master/PhD programs must secure potential supervisors before submitting their application.

When looking for a potential supervisor, please visit the Supervisors Page to search for research experts, explore their research profiles and find contact details. Potential research supervisors can also be found on the Faculty of Science Research page.

International applicants seeking a HDR supervisor must complete the online form and upload any supporting documents before applying for a program.

Domestic applicants emailing a potential supervisor, must include: most recent transcript (translated into English if necessary), a curriculum vitae (resume), and a brief statement of approximately 100 words outlining what kind of research question you are interested in pursuing with the potential supervisor.

Youth Allowance and Austudy

Please, note that the only Psychology postgraduate program that has been approved for Youth Allowance and Austudy is the Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology
