CSC Clinic

The Child Study Centre Clinic aims to meet community needs by providing a range of psychological services to children and their families at an affordable price.

Services offered include:
  • Comprehensive assessment for children and adolescents (birth - 18 years) who are having difficulties with their learning, language or behaviour.
  • Development of home or school based intervention programmes.
  • Small group programmes in social skills, self esteem and anger management for children and adolescents.
  • Small group interventions for language and literacy problems.
  • Parent education and support groups.
  • Individual counselling for children and families. 

The Team at the CSC Clinic:

Dr Janet Fletcher is the Director of the Child Study Centre and Senior Lecturer in Psychology.  She is a registered psychologist and qualified teacher. Jan has an extensive background in special education and developmental psychology.  Recently she has been particularly interested in examining the effects of early language difficulties on children’s friendships and educational progress.  She has also been involved in developing programs to support  effective parenting.

Dr Robin Harvey is a registered psychologist and qualified teacher.  She has worked in a range of settings with children displaying severe behavioural difficulties and their families.  She also has considerable experience in assessment of learning difficulties.  Robin’s current research interests focus on early intervention with children experiencing behavioural and emotional problems which affect school achievement and family functioning.

Dr Steve Heath is a registered psychologist with a background in teaching, parent education and family counselling.  Steve is currently involved in research into the prevention of language and literacy problems. Her particular interests are in early intervention for learning disabilities, and the effects off childhood problems on family and relationships.

Dr Suze Leitao is a speech pathologist with a PhD in Psychology in the area of language and literacy problems.  Suze brings to the team considerable experience in assessment and treatment of children with disorders of speech and language.  Her interests include the impact of speech and language difficulties on literacy development and early identification and the development of intervention programmes.

The team is also available to provide inservicing and consultancy services to schools and community groups in the areas of child development, literacy and language problems, behavioural difficulties and individual programming for children with special needs.  Consultancy and inservicing will aim to provide information and ideas based on the latest international research.


Fees:
Charges will be affordable for single income and unwaged families and will be on a sliding scale, determined by the extent to which families are willing to be involved in the teaching and research programmes conducted at the Child Study Centre.

Concerned parents, teachers or other professionals are encouraged to phone 6488 3195 during business hours to discuss the services the Centre offers to children and their families. The Child Study Centre is located between entrances 1 and 2, Fairway, Nedlands (MAP).  Clinic parking is available by prior arrangement with the Centre.
